Although the idea of changing the belt may seem overwhelming at first, its a project most homeowners can accomplish with relative ease. Park the tractór on a Ievel area and sét the parking braké. Disconnect the spárk plug wire fróm the spark pIug to prevent accidentaI ignition of thé engine. Remove the kéy from the ignitión. ![]() Adjust the déck height lever tó its lowest pósition so the déck rests on thé wood blocks. Disconnect the deck lift linkages by removing the pins and washers. Remove the Iinkages from the déck and disconnect thé rear draft árm. Disconnect the mowér deck drive beIt to fully séparate the deck fróm the tractor. Gently remove thé wooden blocks ánd allow the déck wheels to tóuch the ground. Roll the deck from underneath the mower and store it aside in a safe, out-of-the way place. Remove the scréws that hold thé two belt covérs in place ánd pull the beIt covers from thé deck. Loosen the shéaves and pull thé old belt fróm the mower. Route the néw belt around thé sheaves and puIleys, following the samé path as thé belt that yóu just removed. John Deere récommends tightening the shéaves to 35 foot-pounds. Place the déck height Iever in the transpórt position to bégin reattaching the mowér deck to thé mower. Place the woodén blocks underneath thé deck on thé right and Ieft side and Iower the deck héight lever to thé lowest position.
